A few detours later…
Hi, I'm Julia.
I've spent the last 20 years trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Then I blinked, and somehow I have kids who are taller than me. However, I think I may have finally figured out a few things. It just took me a while to get here.
I guess I took the long way around.
My whole life, I've been drawn to creative things: art, design, ideas, how things work together, and sometimes how they don't.
Long Way Around was built on the belief that the things we treasure most are often tied to a memory, a person, a place, or a moment in time. Through embroidery, I hope to create pieces that spark a smile, bring back a memory, and become something you reach for again and again. Whether you're shopping for yourself or searching for the perfect gift, I hope you find something here that feels personal, meaningful, and made to last.
As I'm sure is true for many of you, life hasn't always taken the path I expected. There have been some hard seasons, and through it all, my family has been by my side.
They are my heart.
If you know them, you may recognize pieces of them woven throughout my designs. That's intentional.
Celebrating the people we love is at the center of everything I create. (And that includes you, too.)
And then there's my husband, Andy. He's my rock. My world functions best with him in it. Long Way Around may have started as my dream, but it wouldn't exist without him.
When I'm not working on new designs or researching new techniques, skills, and products (the list never seems to end), you'll usually find me cheering at dance competitions, driving my kids from one activity to the next, hanging outside with my pups, Georgia and Mabel, who help me tend the flowers, trying to remember to go for my daily jog, and begging time to please slow down.
My hope is simple: that what you wear tells a story. Your story.
Thank you for being here and supporting this small business. I'm so glad you found your way here.
